As soccer continues to grow and develop across the country, Exeter Youth Soccer Association (EYSA) strives to adapt and comply with guidelines and changes within U.S. Youth Soccer, Eastern Pennsylvania Youth Soccer Association (EPYSA), and the Reading-Berks Junior Soccer League (RBJSL). One recent change has to do with age levels and how they are determined in both recreational and travel levels.
Our club will be implementing the new age guidelines for the Fall 2016 session.
A “soccer year” runs from August 1st of the current year through July 31st of the following calendar year and includes Fall, Winter, Spring, and Summer sessions. Historically, age levels were determined by a child’s age as of July 31st. The new process will follow January 1 to December 31 parameters according to birth year.This means to play U8 soccer in fall you must be under 8 years old through December 31st. In another example, to play U13 in fall you must be 12 years old or younger through December 31st of that year. You will then continue to play U13 in winter as well as spring and summer of the following year.
The following is a table to help determine the appropriate category for the Fall 2016 session. This age level category will continue for Winter, Spring and Summer sessions, and will be effective August 1, 2016 through July 31st, 2017. Please be aware that some players will move ahead two age groups for the Fall Session as we make these changes.
|Player's Date of Birth||Age level as of August 1, 2016|
|January 1, 2012 through December 31, 2012||U5 plays as U5/U6 (2012 Soccer year)|
|January 1, 2011 through December 31, 2011||U6 plays as U5/U6 (2011 soccer year)|
|January 1, 2010 through December 31, 2010||U7 (2010 soccer year)|
|January 1, 2009 through December 31, 2009||U8 (2009 soccer year)|
|January 1, 2008 through December 31, 2008||U9 (2008 soccer year)|
|January 1, 2007 through December 31, 2007||U10 (2007 soccer year)|
|January 1, 2006 through December 31, 2006||U11 (2006 soccer year)|
|January 1, 2005 through December 31, 2005||U12 (2005 soccer year)|
|January 1, 2004 through December 31, 2004||U13 (2004 soccer year)|
|January 1, 2003 through December 31, 2003||U14 (2003 soccer year)|
|January 1, 2002 through December 31, 2002||U15 (2002 soccer year)|
Once these changes occur, we will no longer be using “U#” for age categories, but rather the year the player was born (i.e. “U10” will now be considered “2007”)
There have been many changes in our organization and we invite you to attend an EYSA 'Town Hall” meeting on February 28th at 6:30pm at the Dunn Community Center. This will be a great time to meet the board members, ask questions, learn of recent activity, and offer suggestions regarding EYSA. We hope to see you there!
